Challenges of Lean Premixed H2 Combustion in Gas Turbines

Biography

Hasan Karim is the  manager for development of Advanced Combustion Technologies & Analysis Methods, for GE Vernova, located in Greenville South Carolina.  He leads a team of global engineers for the development of  combustion technologies and advanced analysis methods for prediction of combustion dynamics, emissions and combustor exit profile.

Hasan joined GE Power in May 2005 and was involved in aerothermal designs for several DLN combustion technologies for 7HA, 9HA, 7FB, 9FB engine frames. He was one of the inventor of Axial Fuel Staging technology used in 7HA engine frames and led the development of combustion system for 7HA engine frame from concept to field validation.

Before joining GE, Hasan worked in Precision Combustion Inc.        for development of catalytic combustion technologies.  He was the Principal Investigator for several large grants from Department of Energy, Department of Defense,  National Science Foundation and California Energy Commission for the design and development of catalytic combustion technology.  He was one of  inventor for Rich Catalytic Combustion Technology for gas turbine applications.

He has published over 40 articles in peer-reviewed journal and has over 30 granted patents application . One of his co-authored paper received the GAS TURBINE award from ASME in 2005. He also co-authored two chapters on catalytic combustion in the “The Gas Turbine Handbook”, published by US Department of Energy.

Hasan obtained his PhD from Yale University & B.S. degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
